Learning Cricut Gypsy From Provo Craft

So you have purchased the Cricut Gypsy from Provo craft, opened the box looking for the user manual only to be surprised to find out it is not included. What is a crafter to do? This is a problem with the Cricut Gypsy and the Cricut Design Studio, Fortunately there is a solution. A  step by step quick start guide, user manual and even a video tutorial are now available.

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions and answers about the Provo craft Gypsy. Will the Gypsy store my own design projects? Yes. It will hold up to 10,000 of Your Own custom art work and about 7,000 cartridges.

Can I preview cartridges on the Gypsy before I buy? Yes. All cartridges come preloaded on the software. You can even design with them to see if you like the designs. The only thing you can not do is cut with them until you purchase them and link them to the software.

How many cartridges come with the Cricut Gypsy? Two, the Gypsy Wanderings and Gypsy Font. The physical cartridges are not actually included, they come preloaded on the software electronically and are ready to cut.

How do I find the cartridges I own and have linked to the Provo craft Gypsy? You can now sort by categories to show all cartridges or just the ones that have been linked. Your cartridges will be in bold black text while the unlinked cartridges will be in red on the search results screen.

Are the Gypsy and the Design Studio compatible? Yes. Files saved with Cricut DesignStudio can be opened in the Gypsy and vise versa. Even though they do not share the same features, files can be shared.  

What is linking? Linking enables you to cut with your cartridges without having to connect the cartridge to the Gypsy or your Cricut machine. It also lets you cut the cartridge’s content on a Cricut cutter without having to insert the cartridge.

How do I link cartridges?Just connect the link cable that came with the Gypsy into both the Gypsy and the cartridge. Turn on the Gypsy. Click on either the Cricut application button or the main menu look for the link
cartridge button click on it and wait for the display to say the linking operation is complete

Can I share cartridges with other Cricut Gypsy owners? No. You can only link cartridges to one Gypsy because of the unique serial number that is copied to the cartridge preventing it from being linked to another Gypsy.

Once I link the cartridge to the Gypsy will it still work with my Cricut cutting machine? Yes. The cartridge will continue to work in all of your Cricut products.

Can the Gypsy be used with all Cricut machines? Yes. Just connect it to your Cricket cutter using the connector cable and USB port. After you have linked the cartridges to the Gypsy and connected it to your Cricket cutting machine, you are now ready to begin cutting.
